Mark Rees was a transgender politician and activist, best known for challenging the UK government's refusal to change gender status on birth certificates, which he brought to the European Court of Human Rights in 1986. Rees was a co-founder of Press for Change (PFC) and dedicated decades of his life to trans advocacy. He was also elected councillor of Tunbridge Wells, his hometown in Kent, England, and served from 1994-98. Collection includes personal papers, legal papers regarding the case against the UK government, and lobbying papers.
