Dr. Stephen Thomas Whittle (1955-) is a transgender activist and legal scholar, affiliated with Manchester Metropolitan University. His activism began in 1973 through his founding and involvement with various lesbian political groups. After transitioning in 1975, he acquired his law degree to combat anti-trans discrimination, an MA in crime and social policy, and a PhD in transgender civil law. He founded the UK's FTM Network in 1989 and co-founded Press for Change (PFC) in 1992. Whittle is one of the leading legal academics for trans people in the UK, having personal experience with family and custody law. Collection primarily contains personal papers, academic works, and print related to trans organizations and journals across the UK and US.
