A letter from June 1, 1998, written by Rachel West of the US PROStitutes Collective and Lori Nairne of Legal Action for Women in support of Victoria Schneider's lawsuit. The organizations are outraged that SF Police and Sheriff's Deputies unlawfully strip-searched Schneider and verbally harassed her. They say this police violence against women in jail is wrong and dangerous for all women who depend on police for protection. The letter asks the City to quickly resolve the lawsuit and pay Schneider for the abuse and humiliation she suffered. In their view, if the City doesn't act, it will be condoning this violence. This item comes from the Victoria Schneider papers at the GLBT Historical Society. Schneider is an intersex activist and former sex worker best known for her 1997 lawsuit against the City and County of San Francisco, concerning an unlawful strip search during her booking at the San Francisco County Jail.
