Rochester Public Library, Local History & Genealogy Division

The Local History & Genealogy Division of the Rochester Public Library’s Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County holds one of the largest collections for the study of Rochester, Monroe County, and the Genesee Valley Region of New York State. The Shoulders to Stand On community archiving project collects materials related to the history of Rochester’s LGBTQ+ community. It is one of the largest repositories of LGBTQ+ materials in New York State and encompasses a broad range of topics such as LGBTQ+ rights reform, the AIDS epidemic, and records of individual lives.
