A man dressed as an Ottoman soldier marshals the group, five of the men are in drag. A concert party on HMS Ark Royal, a merchant ship converted to an aircraft carrier, which took part in the Gallipoli and Turkish campaigns in World War I and the early 1920s. The central figure appears to be dressed as Mustafa Kemal Pasha, the Turkish military hero and (later) ''father of modern Turkey" (Atatürk).
