Interview with Dr. Aren Aizura
Aren Aizura is a white trans guy from Australia. At the time of this interview, Aizura was an Assistant Professor at University of Minnesota in the Department of Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. In this oral history, Aizura describes his experience of coming out; researching and teaching in the field of transgender studies; the issues around respectability politics; his experiences with getting access to healthcare; and his perspectives on academia vs. lived experiences and why we should listen to and uplift voices who need it most. Aizura describes his hopes for the future for trans communities and details the need for racial and economic justice along with the fight for trans justice.
