A man in drag poses wearing delicate attire; curled up on a piece of furniture. Photographic postcard, 191-.
To Dolly. From Elaine. Temple Belles
'Elaine' has signed this lovely shot of himself in Middle Eastern drag, and dedicated it to 'Dolly'. A member of The Temple Belles concert party in France, World War I. We do not know which unit this troupe was attached to. The costume refers to Egypt or North Africa judging from the props, which include a silver studded shawl of the type exported to the UK in the tens of thousands at the beginning of the 20th century
Part of James Gardiner Collection: photographs of military, naval, and prisoner-of-war camp drag.
