The actor is here dressed in drag as a 'mannish' woman, perhaps based on Radclyffe Hall, whose lesbian novel of 1928 'The well of loneliness' brought her instant notoriety. He is wearing a fedora-type hat with a dark jacket and skirt; he holds a cigarette in one hand and a cane in the other. The same character actor is shown in male costume in Wellcome Library no. 2045068i
