Hotcha Hinton (1915-1983) was a transfeminine burlesque dancer and comedian. Her mother was an aerialist with the Sells Floto Circus, and Hinton herself performed from the age of sixteen until her death at sixty-eight. From the late 1940s until 1956, she was a regular at the Garden of Allah nightclub in Seattle, where she performed with live snakes and also created costumes for other performers. In the summer, she toured with carnivals. She continued to tour through 1982, the year before her death, and was billed as "The Last of the Red Hot Mamas." This item is a reconstruction of Hinton's scrapbook, kept during the last fifteen years of her life and chronicling her relationships, family, and performances. The scrapbook, which is now part of the Don Paulson and Skippy LaRue photograph collection at the University of Washington archives, was disassembled in order to preserve its contents, but remains in its original order.
