Digital Transgender Archive
Androgyny Journal Number 8 (July 1978) is a monthly publication by Gender Media Publications in association with the Southern California Gender Identity Group. The main feature is "The Nowhere Girls" by Cheri, an essay discussing the difficulty of distinguishing transsexuals from transvestites, the high suicide rate among post-operative transsexuals, and the dangers of inadequate "cross-living" preparation before surgery. Other content includes a letter supporting Medi-Cal coverage for gender-affirming surgery and opposing legislative efforts to prohibit such coverage, news about conjugal visits for a transsexual woman married to a prison inmate, and announcements about weekly transsexual rap groups and monthly meetings.
