Pierrette et Polichinelle

Inscription: "Addressed to Monsieur Madam Jouvencon. Brief message on recto from “ta petite famille” signed Justine." Photo-illustration of two stock characters from Italian commedia dell’arte: The cruel and crafty bachelor Punchinello, played by a cross-dressed woman, whispers into the ear of the pretty ingénue Pierrette, played by a woman dressed as a woman. Although the card refers to a theatrical form, it likely does not relate to a specific production of a play, as it makes no mention of a theater or the names of the performers. Undivided verso, indicating that the card was produced before 1903.
