This rather sinister portrait from Weimar Germany circa 1920 shows an elaborately costumed, most likely professional female impersonator on a printed card that must have been produced in large quantities. Female impersonation as entertainment increased in popularity throughout the Weimar period in Germany, as part of the more liberal and relaxed moral atmosphere
